"This router just works ! (with a few setting tweaks)" 2008-12-24
By Random Johnson
For me this router was probably the cheapest router, giving the best results. If you can find this router for around the price of $50, get it.

Initially when I hooked this router up, nothing worked. So i started researching and reading on what to do.

The process took a LOT of stupid and needless reboots. Least to say that was a BIG annoyance and thats because I had to reboot the router for each setting change or that changed setting wouldn't be remembered. So setting it up will take a good amount of time. Continuing....

after doing my research. I decided to restart the router to its factory settings and then reset my ISP Modem. Afterwards, I connected to my router via wireless. There were no problems for me because there were no passwords or keys involved. First I went to Home -> Wireless: set the "Channel" to 3, set "Super-G" to Disabled (it's completely useless!), set "802.11g Only Mode" to Enabled (I've read that the router randomly reboots if that setting is Disabled, meaning if wireless B is enabled the router reboots), set "SSID Broadcast" to Enabled, set "Security" to "WPA-PSK". chose a WPA mode, used the AES Cypher, and made a strong key.

In TOOLS -> Miscellaneous make sure "Discard PING from WAN Side" is set to Enabled. "UPNP Settings" are set to Disabled. and "Gaming Mode" is are set to Disabled (If you regularly play online multiplayer video games set it to Enabled).

After a good few reboots, everything was set. This router is excellent I consistently get 1.6 MB/s (Megabytes per second) when downloading Linux distros through bittorrent. My max connection if I were to be on through the ethernet cable would be 1.75 MB/s. Just showing how capable this router is.

"Good feature set, poor long-term reliability" 2008-02-17
By Michael Teper
I purchased this router last year and it has served me well for about 6 months. The feature set is comprehensive, flexible, and the configuration is reasonably straght-forward.

After about 6 months of flawless service, the router has gone flaky and fails to pass through DNS server info to DHCP clients after it has been up for a while. The router itself reports the DNS servers fine and everything can be fixed with a reboot.

D-Link support is outsourced, but can speak and understand english well. However, even with level 2 support, they have not yet been able to come up with a fix.

"used for a year, incredible performance, stability, and reliability" 2008-01-27
By Gadget Lover (USA)
I've used Netgear, Linksys, Airlink, and D-Link routers in the past, and this DI-634M has been the best router yet.

I purchased it a year ago because my DI-614 would constantly daily rebooting, just to retain signal on all my routers, and my IBM T43 wouldn't work with the DI-614.

I did a lot of research, saw the tons of favorable reviews here on Amazon, and decided to try out the DI-634M a year ago. Wow, what an amazing product.

I have had to reboot this product maybe once or twice in the last year, never had a problem setting ANY pcs up on this router, and the signal reaches all corners of my house and beyond. The performance beats my old DI-614 router, even when it was set up with an expensive $80 Hawking AC amplified antenna!

A friend of mine started having problems with his WRT54GL, and I helped buy this router to replace the dying router. Same results - rock solid stability, range, and reliability.

I would not hesitate to buy this router again, even over all the new "draft N" stuff. I *highly* recommend this router!!

"This is my last D-Link Product" 2007-09-13
By Jill Dortch (Columbia, SC)
This will be my last D-Link router. For some reason they have the uncanny ability to fail right after the warranty period is over! I had a 524, a 624G and now this one do almost the same thing after the same amount of time. The power led comes on but the router won't respond nor pass traffic. R.I.P. D-Link, i'm going to Netgear!

"Lasted just over one year" 2007-08-11
By S. Edmiston (Chicago)
While it worked, it worked pretty well. I would have to reset it every couple of months. Too bad it died just about three weeks after the one year anniversary.
