very easy to set up -- certainly has better range than my previous Netgear 624 G!

 "Excellent Router" 2009-07-01
By Kurt Kreiss
I read all the reviews and a few people have issues setting up their router. This one is easy and works great. It was up and running in 30 minutes and is very fast. Much better than the Linksys I had before. Also, Skype works great now too. You cannot beat all the features, performance and price for this router. The range is excellent too. I can relax in the shade in the yard and surf! Get one.

Amazon is always flawless. Great service!

"I like it so far" 2009-05-30
By A. Ghayyath (San Antonio, TX USA)
Well, as far as 2 day use goes, it is great. My not wireless printer is hooked up and printed wirelessly (the D-Link SharePort Network USB utility). All my computers are hooked up (3 wirelessly) with relatively simple steps.

Overall, keep in mind I have had it for 2 days, it is working just fine.

PS I am only using the 2.4 GHz not the 5 GHz band, so I am not sure about the conflicts that arise from there.!

If you need a new wireless router and have a "N" wireless network card, then this product is not bad.

"Fast router, but has a major problem" 2009-05-08
By KKop (Atlanta, GA - USA)
The DIR-628 is a fast router, easy to set up, and easy to maintain.

However, as another reviewer wrote, after a while it will refuse to save any chnages you make to the router settings. D-Link support has no info on this, but there are messages all over the web detailing this problem.

If DLink fixes that bug, I would recommend this router. As it is, I can only give it two stars, and a 'don't buy' advice.

"Performs nicely; very difficult to set up." 2009-06-29
By consumer (Orange County, CA)
Both the 2.4 ghz and the 5.0 ghz work very nicely. However... it took me 7 calls (not exaggerating) to make them successful. Talking to customer support is difficult as the DLink technicians have poor English skills and are unknowledgeable. Expect hours to get the internet plus the "utility Port" for the printer to work.

Very well designed product, but expect some customer support grief to get the router working. Make sure you download the latest "firmware." Now 1.11 as of review date

 "Dlink DIR-825 OK, for a router" 2009-06-25
By PDX Craig (Portland, OR)
Version A1, Firmware 1.01

I recently upgraded my old g level router to this one.

As with my experience with other routers, the documentation was spotty, with lots of inconsistencies. Set up was a pain. But it I got it working in less than an hour.

The max rate I connected wireless was 130 Mb/s. At first I got half this, but bumped the default frequency from 20 to 20/40 and it improved. Haven't used the 5 GHz band much.

Can only connect 1 person at a time to the usb storage device and I could not see it when connected wireless. Tried customer support and got the typical royal run around. We traded email 3 times with them asking unecessary clarification questions each time. Finally they wrote me to call in. I did, and after answering another barrage of questions off their list I was put on hold for 5 minutes. I had better things to do and hung up. Unfortunately this crap is all to typical.

Read the reviews and decided to upgrade my firmware to 1.11. This required also downloading a new usb utility and setting up my router a 2nd time - 5 minutes this time.

Finally - yes, I can access my usb disk wirelessly.

 "Horrible Just Horrible" 2009-06-23
By Justime (USA)
I would like to begin by saying that Amazon's customer service is impeccable. This product on the other hand is not worth its cost. The range is terribly weak, the speed was inconsistent by bursting packets of data and having lag the next minute. Next, this product kept dropping connection and forcing the adapter to reconnect. Also, it is utterly point less to buy this router unless your adapter can handle the 5ghz frequency. I got the dwa-552 xtreme n adapter which apparently get on the n frequency.

LASTLY TECHNICAL SUPPORT KNOWS NOTHING THEY ARE NO HELP.

"Nothing "Xtreme" or dual band about it. NOT RELIABLE." 2009-06-23
By Santiago N. Arene (Washington, DC USA)
Had constant connection failures out of the box. Firmware upgrade was suggested. Latest firmware installed and all connections (wired, 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz) still crap out at least once every hour. D-Link has a lot to learn on the manufacturing side and, most importantly, on the customer service side, which, at best, is horrendous. You have to spend 5 hours on the phone w/ them to have them admit it's they're problem. All while telling the user it's user error, user equipment error (all your non-D-Link equipment, of course, is to blame).
