"Sucks! Don't use this router!!!" 2009-12-13
By Qun Niu
Sometimes, we cannot find the signal!!!

Other neighbors' signals are more stronger than ours!!!

Sometimes, even we can find the signal, we cannot connect with the router.

I don't know why.

I was a junior IT techinician. I believe this router is the worst router I have ever seen.

Don't buy it!

I believe Linksys was good. But after they merge with Cisco, they sucks!

I will buy an old blue one.

Don't use this!!!

If you buy this, you will definitely regret!

"Product seems good; customer support extremely poor!" 2009-12-10
By E. Sharp
This product seems to do what I wanted; wireless for my netbook and access for it to the desktop, including printing. BUT...it took parts of three days to set it up ...telephone support from Linksys was extremely poor! The Rep said she had to go to a quieter place and told me to wait by the phone, which I did, and she never called back. I tried the online chat help and they had no suggestions. A new setup program is needed to be downloaded that the tech never mentioned. The self help files online helped, in addition to checking a lot of permissions, security programs, and such on your own. If you know how, have the time to do it, or someone to help, great! If not, don't count on customer support.

Hint: be sure you use the IP address and access the setup on your wireless router to change the security settings...or anyone that knows anything will have access to your computer.

"Stay Away - Not Worth It" 2009-12-07
By Directorate (Oak Grove, KY)
I'm just going to make it short and sweet. This router, and by going to online forums, has a widespread problem of continuously dropping the connection. The bigger problem is that if you're not computer network savy you won't be able to figure it out on your own, so you have to talk to customer support who give you a fix that should be only temporary, but it appears this is their permanent fix instead of a serious firmware update.

If you're buying a router for the looks then this is it. It looks good, but other than that if you want to avoid frustration stay away.

The price was very good, easy set up & its fast. Just bought 2 netbooks for my daughters and a laptop for myself. Connection is great when its not dropping the connections. I had about 5 dropped connections just today. Way too many dropped connections, what a pain! Very disappointed with this purchase.

Bought this router during last year's Black Friday sale and have been using it since.

A real workhorse to say the least. Not a single dropped connection in almost a year. The signal strength is always showing as excellent from any part of the house. We have 3 laptops working off this WiFi connection and no complaints so far. Thank you Linksys.

After half a year of getting 2/5 signal bars from my old wireless router (even being in the same room!) I purchased this one. It was very easy to install (didn't even need the CD) and my laptop immediately picked up the signal. So happy to have a secure wireless network with full bars! At last!

Avoid this product!!!

I had a terrible experience with this product:

-I bought it from Amazon.com, installed and after 2 days of usage, the product was dead. Frozen, not working at all and even without the power cord, the product was blinking.

-I contacted the customer service and they treat you like someone withou brain, asking you very basic questions and following a protocol that will not address your issue in less than an hour of questions

-Everytime I had to contact them I have to went through all the questions again.

-I have to pay $30 dollars to receive a new router next day, otherwise they will not going to charge you, but you will receive the product within 14days (which was not an option for me)

-The new router wroks fine for exactly two days and then I have to reset the product. I tried everything and they do not know the problem. They said that they already changed my router and they will not change it again.

-Bottom line: they not care about the customer, they not have a good product, and it is very expensive.

 "Do Not Purchase" 2009-08-26
By Leslie (Philadelphia)
I made the mistake of purchasing this product just over a year ago. It sits safely on my desk, out of harms way. Last night, the router mysteriously stopped working. Thinking it was me, I followed the "help" directions and got nowhere. My next step was Linksys customer service. The first representative suggested that I purchase another router, and made suggestions. Purchase another router?! After 9 representatives, supervisors, and managers, I was told that the product is only guaranteed to last about 10 mths. which essentially means buying a wireless router once per year. There is no standing behind their product, it's 10 mths. and done. NO THANK YOU.

Buy Cheap Linksys T-mobile Hotspot Home Wireless Router WRT54G-TM

Buy Low Price From Here Now

The Linksys Wireless-G broadband router is really three devices in one box. First, it's a wireless access point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There's also a built-in four-port full-duplex 10/100 switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection.

To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G broadband router can encrypt all wireless transmissions, and it supports the industrial-strength wireless security of 802.1x authentication and authorization. The router can serve as a DHCP server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the Web browser-based configuration utility.

With the Linksys Wireless-G broadband router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers, and multiplayer games with the flexibility, speed, and security you need!

Wireless-G is the 54 Mbps wireless networking standard that's more than four times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country. But since they share the same 2.4 GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also interoperate with existing 11 Mbps Wireless-B equipment.

Because both standards are built-in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate to the new screaming-fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow.

"Best kept secret for DD-Wrt hackers!" 2009-10-12
By Timothy R. Lindley (Jackson, MI USA)
This product is the must have now that it is supported by DD-Wrt.

The atrocious T-Mobile firmware is so HUGE and requres so much RAM that Linksys specially made these units with 32Megs of nvram and 8 megs of RAM. 200 meg proc. this is like getting a wrt54gs but with twice the memory and 4 times the storage. you can load full distributions of dd-wrt and even probably store some logs on these.

It is a wrt router so theres no suprises there. if you are looking for a dd-wrt capable router this is the one to get.

No t-mobles folly is a dd-wrt hackers fortune. picked mine up for less than i would have a wrt54gs. and i love it. my GS was crashing weekly with an old version of dd-wrt on it and i think the tcip connections were filling up the ram. now i dont have that problem.

Linksys WRT350N Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link

Buy Cheap Linksys WRT350N Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link

Buy Low Price From Here Now

The Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link is really four devices in one box. First, theres the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. Theres also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100/1000 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together at up to gigabit speeds. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. Weve also included a Storage Link that lets you easily add gigabytes of storage space onto your network using readily available USB 2.0 hard drives -- or plug in a USB flash disk for a convenient way to access your portable data files. The built-in Media Server streams music, video, and photos from the attached storage device to any UPnP compatible media adapter. And you can get to your files from anywhere in the world through the Internet. The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-Ns Multiple In, Multiple Out (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce dead spots in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 3 times farther than standard Wireless-G.

This router works good if all you want is an Internet connection for casual surfing. Shortly after I open a port for forwarding traffic, the router locks up and I have to reset it. This is a low end router. The price for this average router should be from $50 to $70.

"Not so stable - needs to reboot every now and then" 2009-03-08
By Raymond Lee (Fremont, CA United States)
I did not get a better reception than the 4 years old SMC router. My son also complained about me paying so much for this piece of crap when comparing to the SMC router that I owned for more than 4 years.

Every now and then I had to reset this router ever after upgrading to the latest firmware. After several months, it finally died and I couldn't get it up anymore, i.e. never able to get to the http admin home page.

Luckily, it has 3 years warranty, instead of getting a refurbished one of the same model, Linksys is sending me a refurbished WRT600N which suppose to me more expensive than the WRT350N. Not sure if it is sure but that's what the email said.

But I am not so excited about getting the WRT600N either. Based on the review from other people, the WRT600N does not seem to be any better. Linksys has been selling good quality products but I am disappointed about the WRT350N. In this case, I do not recommend it to anyone.

This router has less range than my old Netgear Wireless-G router. Very dissapointing. Also, the setup wizard on the supplied CD didn't work with Windows XP, and I had to manually configure the router. Other than that, all router functions seem to work well, and the user interface is very good.

 "WRT350N working great" 2009-03-04
By Richard Szanti
I installed this to use with my Desktop (XP) and a Laptop (Vista), the Desktop wired, the Laptop wireless. The wiring of the Desktop was easy, I installed the software, followed directions and startup went perfect (did need to call my ISP for one piece of info). The Desktop worked flawlessly.

The Laptop came with a wireless card so only needed a menu setup and it was working, at least I could connect to the internet. When I tried to set up file and printer sharing with my Desktop (the printer is connected directly to the desktop) I found the lack of any explicit instructions related to this was a problem for me. Several days of internet research finally resolved it and now all works perfect.

 "Unreliable. Find something better." 2009-10-02
By J. Allers (Washington, DC United States)
From my experience, this router does not work well. When I was the primary user, I had to reboot the router quite often to get it responding again. This was very annoying, but I could deal with it. As soon as my girlfriend and I moved in together, and the router had to deal with the extra connection from my girlfriends Mac, we both started experiencing frequent dropped connections along with the regular reboots.

I have since purchased the Linksys WRT54GL and installed the Tomato firmware. It's been running 4 months without any issues. I haven't touched it since the day I set it up.

I don't know why the WRT54G runs so poorly in comparison to the WRT54GL, but I will never go back to that model again.

 "Works...most of the time..." 2009-09-16
By catgrrrl
I don't have a lot of experience setting up a wireless computer, so I don't know if what I had to go through is just Linksys or if it is common for other routers also. My problem is that I have only one cable outlet in a very inconvenient location, so I wanted to get the wireless set up so I could use my desktop where I wanted it. So to me...WIRELESS should mean that I do not need to connect my computer with the mondem at all with wires. However, you have to connect them initially (which meant I had to disconnect my computer where I had it set up, bring it downstairs, connect it while sitting on the floor, set it up, then disconnect and take it back upstairs and set everything up again). So I did all that, and it worked great for a few weeks. Then I turned off the computer...and now I'm connecting to the network, but can't get on the internet. The troubleshooting with the Linksys system wants me to connect the ethernet cable with my computer again...this is really not going to work if every few weeks I have to dismantle my computer and take it downstairs and get everything working again. Not really my idea of a WIRELESS system. Maybe I'm doing something wrong because I have talked to others with wireless and they had no problems...or maybe this particular system is just not very great for desktops, I don't know. But I probably would not get this one again.

 "Problems from the start" 2009-07-30
By Matthew Greenberg (San Jose, CA USA)
I just bought the router today and the thing does not work. I followed the installation procedures and I am having problems connecting with the internet with the router present.

The installation was a snap but after the installation, I could not connect. I talked to Tech Support and they helped somewhat and I was treated well but the woman admitted to me that they are getting many calls about connection problems. She helped me connect my desktop but my laptop was not working wireless or with the network cable with no success. She said that I would have to go to level 2 support...

I am an engineer and not a technical slouch... I am successful is diagnosing problems but the router should work as designed otherwise you have to configure every machine connection individually which is not how the router was designed.

I did a second install which did not work either. This router is going back to Fry's; I do not know if the G version of this router is worth it or should I try another brand (it is hard to decide between the reviews that I read from the other vendors)...

Any ideas?

"The worst tech. support ever encountered." 2009-07-29
By W. Silva
I purchased the WRT54G2 and followed the instructions to the letter. The install was straight forward and I encountered no problems. When finished, the instructional cd informed me that the installation was successful. When I attempted to use my laptop on the wireless network, it would not connect. I eventually contacted tech. support. BIG MISTAKE. After an hour of following numerous changes to the network settings I was told that it must be my computer. My laptop is what I use at work, & it works flawlessly every day in a wireless setup. However, I was told to go to work and try again. The laptop worked fine at work. So I called again today, after another hour, I was told that BOTH my laptop & desktop were broken & that I needed to get them fixed before the Linksys router would work. I told the tech that both computers were worked perfectly before the 2 hours of changes & that Linksys is responsible for the network problems that I now have. I was put on hold to talk to a supervisor. After 38 minutes of music, I hung up & have sent the Linksys back to Amazon. I have been using computer related equipment for over 25 years. I have never encountered such useless & counter productive advice. The Linksys tech support makes HP support seem like Apple Care!

"Great router though the range isn't as good as it could be" 2009-07-28
By T. Wheatley
The router works great. I had previously been using a Netgear WGR614 router (which was still 54mbs and wireless g enabled). The Netgear router kept dropping the connection and seemed like it was overheating.

I purchased the Linksys router and like it for the following reasons:

1. Looks much more sleek

2. The Internet seems faster and more responsive

3. My Vista machine gains back its connection much more quickly when coming out of sleep or hibernation

4. No more dropped connections

5. Option for https configuration

6. Has WPA2

7. Tried out the connection and the WPA2 works with the Wii, and the G1 Android phone. Ooma worked fine through the wired plugin.

Things that could use some improvement:

1. I don't like it when you have to install software for peripherals and accessories. I installed the software, and will uninstall it because I can get to the advanced settings directly through the router interface.

2. I checked the signal strength in different parts of the house before I disconnected my old router and then after connecting the Linksys router. Where I received Very Good with the old router, the Linksys router only gives Fair to Good connection strength.

I bought this product after my DLink router died. It lasted 4 years, so I was happy with the purchase. Anyhow, I went to BB because I did not want to wait for a unit to ship. I purchased this unit and it would not work. (There were no Dlink items in stock) I spent about an hour with "customer service" and they said it was unable to work because of our network. We have Comcast and I had already contacted them and was certain it was not their issue, as we have cable and phone service and both were fine. I returned the unit to BB and purchased a Netgear router. It was easy to setup and has been great. It is less expensive as well.
